St Helena Island 1873
$14.95 - $55.00
In 1873, St Helena Island was built in the Lake Michigan straits to warn ships of shallow rocks and shoal area in the water east of the light. The water is high as you can see and almost surrounds the light, coming right up near the foundations. The light is now owned by the Great Lakes Lighthouse Keepers Association GLLKA, and again in danger of finding itself in high water levels in 2020.. All prints come with a brief history of the lighthouse and the artist. This is available in prints and card.

McGulpin Point
$14.95 - $55.00
McGulpin Point lighthouse is a recently restored light. it is 3 miles west of Mackinaw City on a bluff overlooking the Straits of Lake Michigan. It was obsoleted when Mackinaw Point Light in Mackinaw City was built. It was in private residence for many years with the lantern room removed. The tower is an integral part of the lighthouse and the only way you can access the second floor bedrooms. It was bought by Emmet County and restored. It is open in season.. Waugoshance Shoal Lighthouse
$14.95 - $55.00
Waugoshance Shoal light sits on a shallow shoal , 5-6 feet deep in some spots, that extends 1 1/2 miles out into the southern passage of Lake Michigan. It was obsoleted when Gray’s Reef marking a deeper passage was built. This painting shows the light after it has been bombed and straffed by bullets in aerial practice in the 1940’s and burnt out, It still boosts one of only 3 bird cage style lantern rooms and as you can see the cormorants have taken this to heart and make it home.. All prints come with a brief history of the lighthouse and the artist. This is available in prints and card.

White Shoal Lighthouse
$14.95 - $55.00
This is the only diagonally candy striped red and white lighthouse in the world! It originally was tiled with gleaming white tile, but the grout did not weather well and it was sprayed with a gray cement like material. The problem was it could not be seen by ships on gray days or fog. The light acts as a turn signal to boats to turn east to the Straits or west to Escanaba, or south down the west shore of Michigan to Chicago, so they decided to give it a paint design that couldn’t be missed. I have painted this on a bright sunny day with blue sky. The light boasted a very large second order Fresnel Lens which now is in the Whitefish Point. All prints come with a brief history of the lighthouse and the artist. This is available in prints and card.

Skillagalle Island, Lake Michigan
$14.95 - $55.00
Skillagalee is a very flat island about 7 miles out from Charlevoix on the way by boat to Beaver Island. I was very fortunate for a family member of one of the island keepers brought in photos and memorabilia for me to see. I chose a black and white photo that showed the island with it’s buildings intact. I decided to light it with sunlit from a low sunset which worked really well.. Later after much debate by Charlevoix citizens, the light was painted red, so I changed the card to red. The snowy sky is a watercolor surprise for which I take credit.. “October Afternoon” Grand Traverse Lt. Lake. Michigan This light is in a State Park just north of Traverse City, Mi. It is a double apartment keeper’s quarters and you may arrange to be a keeper and stay in the light. The stone work, a flower planter and lighthouse shaped bird house done by a past keeper is unique. S. Manitou Island Lt Tall tower is one of only five “Poe style” lights in Michigan waters similar to New Presque on Lake Huron and Little Sable Light on Lake Michigan. This light maybe seen by ferry from Leland, MI. I enjoyed painting this sunlit scene without a horizon emphasizing the blue of the lake.
